I am currently a Professor of Operations Management and Head of the Centre for Supply Chain Improvement (https://www.derby.ac.uk/blss/research/supply-chain-improvement/), College of Business, Law and Social Sciences of the University of Derby, UK. Some other activities I am involved with, apart from my teaching duties include: supervision of PhD and Master research projects, research and consultancy.
I graduated in 1998 from the Autonoma de Nuevo Leon University (U.A.N.L.) in Mexico as Mechanical Administrator Engineer. Then, in 2001 I completed an MSc in Production and Quality from the same University. In 2003, the Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) awarded me a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management at the University of Manchester, from where I graduated in 2008. Then, in 2009 I finished an MBA at the University of Northampton, UK and in 2010 I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the University of Derby.
Professional Certifications and Industrial Experience
I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET) and a certified process improvement Six Sigma-Green Belt. I am also a Fellow Member of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and have over eigth years of industrial experience working as Production Manager, Production Engineer and Operations Manager for several international and local companies in both the UK and Mexico.
Research interest, outputs and activities
My main research interests are in the area of Operations Management, Business and Process Excellence, particularly, in Process Improvement and Performance Measurement Systems, Lean Operations focusing on "the study of flows and processes", Six Sigma, Quality Management and Supply Chain Management. Currently, my research interest on business and process excellence methods has been refocused to incorporate and explore how these can enable more sustainable, greener and circular supply chains and internal business operations.
I have published a number of papers in highly regarded peer reviewed Journals and International Conferences, as well as four books in the areas of operations and innovation management, quality management systems and manufacturing performance measurement systems. I am also an active reviewer of more than 30 journals.
I am one of the founders and Editors of the International Journal of Supply Chain and Operations Resilience (IJSCOR) of Inderscience
I am also Associate Editor for the International Journal of Operations and Production Management () and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (. I am also part of the editorial board (EB) of journals such as JMTM, IJLER, IJEME, IJETI, IJMAI and OMJ, and have participated as part of the organising committee and scientific boards of International Conferences that include FAIM, IEOM, EUBITM, ICMR, IETSD.
