Academic Qualifications

I graduated in 1998 from the Autonoma de Nuevo Leon University (U.A.N.L.) in Mexico as Mechanical Administrator Engineer. Then, in 2001 I completed an MSc in Production and Quality from the same University. In 2003, the Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) awarded me a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management at the University of Manchester, from where I graduated in 2008. Then, in 2009 I finished an MBA at the University of Northampton, UK and in 2010 I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the University of Derby. 

 

Professional Certifications and Industrial Experience

I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET) and a certified process improvement Six Sigma-Green Belt. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and Fellow of the Society of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (FIEOM) and have over eigth years of industrial experience working as Production Manager, Production Engineer and Operations Manager for several international and local companies in both the UK and Mexico.

 

Research interest, outputs and activities

My main research interests are in the area of Operations and Production Management, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Lean and Agile Operations and Supply Chains, Sustainability within the context of Operations and Supply Chains, Circular or Closed-Loop Operations and Supply Chains, Sustainable and Green Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 technologies application in operations and supply chains, Lean Management, Quality Management & Operations Excellence, Innovation Management. Currently, my research interest on business and process excellence methods has been refocused to incorporate and explore how these can enable more sustainable, greener and circular supply chains and internal business operations through the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies.  

 

I have published an extensive number of papers in highly regarded peer reviewed Journals and International Conferences, as well as seven books in the areas of operations and innovation management, quality management systems, manufacturing performance measurement systems and continuous improvement. I am also an active reviewer of more than 30 journals.

 

I am one of the founders and Editors of the International Journal of Supply Chain and Operations Resilience (IJSCOR) of Inderscience.

 

I am also Associate Editor for the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Associate Editor of the Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, Associate Editor of the IET Collaborative Intelligent Manufacturing  and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management.
